The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia staged a carefully choreographed public reconciliation on Tuesday evening, with senior media officials from both countries posting near-identical messages on X at precisely 7pm Riyadh time affirming their shared history, wise leadership and common destiny, in the most visible signal of bilateral rapprochement since their rift became public months ago.
Abdulla bin Mohammed Alhamed, Chairman of the UAE National Media Authority, and Saudi Minister of Media Salman Al-Dosary both released posts at 7pm Riyadh time. Alhamed wrote that Emirati-Saudi relations are an extension of a shared history and deep-rooted fraternal ties between two brotherly peoples united by a single destiny.
Al-Dosary described the relationship as built on shared history, heritage and wise leadership. Both posts carried a clear directive: media organisations on both sides should reflect the strength of bilateral ties and avoid content that could undermine relations.
The coordinated messaging follows months of tensions over oil production quotas, Yemen policy, and the UAE’s decision to leave OPEC in April. Bloomberg described it as the most visible reconciliation gesture the two countries have made since their rift became apparent.
