US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are scheduled to meet in Washington on Tuesday, the White House source told Reuters on Friday, as Zelenskyy announced the two countries are moving forward with a joint drone production agreement that will include a US factory manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles using Ukrainian technology.
Zelenskyy said in an interview on Friday that cooperation with Washington would include a US factory to produce drones using Ukraine’s advanced technology, adding that Ukrainian drones can now operate over 3,000 kilometres with the prospect of even longer distances. He also confirmed separate talks with Raytheon on joint production of Patriot air defence systems.
A Ukrainian source told Reuters that Kyiv and Washington are also preparing an air ceasefire proposal to present to Russian officials as part of a broader diplomatic push to end the war.
Zelenskyy spoke with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on Wednesday about renewed peace talks. Zelenskyy is also expected to attend the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham on Tuesday.
The meeting follows political turmoil in Kyiv after Zelenskyy dismissed Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov last week, prompting nationwide protests.
