The Indian government was expected to resume talks on Saturday with leaders of a Gen-Z protest movement that disrupted parts of New Delhi this week, as demonstrators continued to demand the resignation of the education minister over exam paper leaks.
The two sides also met on Friday, when leaders of India’s youth-led “cockroach” protest movement said the government has asked for time until Saturday afternoon to respond to their demand for the resignation of the education minister.
The statement came after protest leaders held talks with two government ministers in New Delhi on Friday, as anger continued over exam paper leaks that have drawn tens of thousands of young people into the capital.
The talks followed the end of activist Sonam Wangchuk’s 26-day hunger strike, raising hopes that the government and protest leaders could move closer to a breakthrough.
The movement has demanded political accountability over the exam leak scandal, which protesters say has damaged public trust in India’s education system and hurt young people competing for academic and professional opportunities.
