United Kingdom has announced a new measure restricting access to social media for users under the age of 16, in an effort to protect young people from the negative effects of digital platforms.

According to the announcement, the ban applies to access and use of popular social media networks, with the aim of reducing children’s and teenagers’ exposure to harmful content and improving their online safety.

Authorities in the country stated that the measure is part of a broader strategy to regulate the digital space and strengthen the protection of minors online. Social media companies are expected to introduce stricter age-verification mechanisms for users.

The decision has already sparked public reactions, with some experts welcoming it as a step toward greater protection of young people, while others warn of potential technical and practical challenges in its implementation.

The debate over the role of social media in young people’s lives has intensified, with attention now focused on how the new regulation will be enforced in practice.
