Serbian tennis player and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic surprised many with his football prediction for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, which kicks off tonight in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

In a short interview, when asked who he sees as the tournament winner and who he supports at the World Cup, Djokovic gave an unexpected answer that quickly drew major attention in the sports world.

“The final is Portugal against Mexico. Portugal will win 2–0 or 2–1,” Djokovic said, who is known to be close friends with Cristiano Ronaldo and does not hide his admiration for the Portuguese star.

Interestingly, the Serbian ace also sees Mexico reaching the World Cup final, even though the hosts are considered underdogs in the race for the title, making his prediction even more surprising for analysts and fans.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the first to feature 48 national teams, begins tonight and will run until July 19, bringing the biggest tournament in football history.

According to Sport Life odds, Mexico reaching the final is priced at 26.00, while Portugal is at 5.00, making Djokovic’s prediction even more intriguing in the eyes of bettors.
