France is positioning itself as one of the leading forces in artificial intelligence development in Europe, while Paris is emerging as a top European center for job creation in this rapidly growing sector, according to an analysis by LinkedIn.
Data shows that more than 256,000 AI-related jobs have been created in the European Union since 2023, even as the broader labor market continues to recover more slowly from pre-pandemic levels.
In Paris alone, around 20,000 AI jobs were created between 2023 and 2025, placing the French capital ahead of other major European tech hubs such as Dublin, Munich, and Milan.
France’s success in this sector is attributed to a strong research ecosystem, elite engineering schools, a fast-growing startup scene led by companies such as Mistral AI, and large-scale public and private investments.
The French government launched a national AI strategy in 2018, which was later reinforced through the “France 2030” plan aimed at strengthening the country’s technological competitiveness.
This investment wave has been accompanied by record private funding, including more than €109 billion announced at a Paris tech summit, a €75 billion contribution from Japan’s SoftBank, and major infrastructure projects involving large-scale computing campuses.
Beyond Paris, other French cities are also rapidly advancing in AI. Grenoble stands out for having the highest concentration of AI experts in the country, while Toulouse has recorded the fastest AI job growth in Europe, up 67% in one year, driven by the integration of AI in the aerospace, defense, and aviation sectors.
A LinkedIn study concludes that artificial intelligence is not currently destroying jobs in France on a large scale, but rather transforming them.
AI is increasingly acting as a tool that complements and extends human work, rather than replacing it, researchers conclude.
