Giannis Antetokounmpo is headed for Miami, and the NBA trade market is already moving fast before draft night.
The Heat have agreed a blockbuster deal with the Milwaukee Bucks to acquire the two-time MVP and Bobby Portis, with the move still needing league approval. In return, Milwaukee is set to receive Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis.
The Bucks are also due to get the No. 13 pick in Tuesday night’s NBA draft, a 2030 first-round pick swap, first-round selections in 2031 and 2033, and a 2033 second-round pick.
The deal ends a tense spell around Antetokounmpo’s future in Milwaukee. The Bucks had weighed offers from Miami and Boston after a season that left the franchise outside the title picture and led to the firing of coach Doc Rivers.
Antetokounmpo leaves with a towering Milwaukee resume: the 2021 NBA championship, 10 All-Star selections, two MVP awards and nine All-NBA selections. He averaged 27.6 points in an injury-shortened 2025-26 season and has scored 21,531 career points.
For Miami, the move follows a familiar star-chasing script. The Heat landed Shaquille O’Neal in 2004, then brought LeBron James and Chris Bosh together with Dwyane Wade in 2010. Now Antetokounmpo joins a team that kept Bam Adebayo out of the outgoing package.
Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam said in May that the period before the draft was a natural time for a franchise-altering decision, adding: “You’ve got to get it right.”
Milwaukee now turns toward a rebuild built around players and picks. Miami turns toward another superstar era, and the pressure is now on.
