With the win, the Spurs became only the second team in NBA Finals history to win the first three road games of a championship series. The feat was previously achieved by the Chicago Bulls 33 years ago.
Victor Wembanyama was the standout performer of the night, leading San Antonio with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and three blocks. The French star bounced back after the opening two games and played a decisive role in the closing stages of the contest.
“We communicated better and executed our responsibilities more effectively on both ends of the floor,” Wembanyama said after the game.
De’Aaron Fox sealed the victory with a crucial mid-range jumper late in the fourth quarter, extinguishing New York’s hopes of a comeback.
Despite strong support from the home crowd, the Knicks were unable to extend their playoff winning streak. Head coach Mike Brown expressed frustration with both his team’s performance and the officiating, particularly regarding the disparity in free-throw attempts during the second half.
“I never thought I would be in the NBA Finals and see one team get 24 free-throw attempts in the second half while the other gets only eight,” Brown said.
According to the statistics, the Spurs held a 24-8 advantage in free-throw attempts after halftime, a factor that further intensified postgame discussions.
Game 4 of the NBA Finals will once again be played in New York, where the Knicks will look to capitalize on their home-court advantage. Meanwhile, the Spurs will aim to level the series at 2-2 and restore complete uncertainty to the battle for the championship title.
