Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed a missile attack on southern Saudi Arabia on Saturday, adding another front to a regional conflict already drawing in Iran, the United States and Gulf states.

The Iran-aligned armed group said it targeted Jizan, a Saudi city near the Yemen border, after promising to respond to Saudi attacks earlier in the week. Saudi air defences intercepted two ballistic missiles from Yemen, while Saudi civil defence issued warnings for Jizan.

The claim followed Saudi strikes on Friday that targeted a naval base in Hodeida and a military camp on Kamaran island, according to a Yemeni security source cited in the report. The Houthis described those attacks as a “dangerous escalation”.

The armed group, which controls northern and western Yemen, had declared a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea last week after the kingdom struck the airport in Sana’a. The Houthis also struck two Saudi tankers on Thursday, prompting new warnings from US President Donald Trump.

Iran, meanwhile, reported its first night without US strikes in two weeks. Health ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour wrote on X: “Iran had a peaceful night.”

The pause did not end the exchanges of warnings. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Britain would become a target if it backed the US in a war with Tehran, according to Iranian state broadcaster Irib.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the “American approach” was blocking peace talks, while also saying there was “no military solution” to the Saudi-Houthi conflict.

Diplomatic channels have remained open through regional mediators, including Pakistan and Qatar. But active fighting has continued around the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, two routes central to energy shipments.

Araghchi called for further dialogue between the sides.
