Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued an urgent national security warning on Friday evening, saying Ukraine’s intelligence services and international partners suggested Russia had readied missiles for a new massive attack on Ukraine that could strike within the next 48 hours.
“We know from intelligence sources and our partners that the Russians have prepared missiles for a new massive strike on Ukraine. This strike could happen today: preliminary information indicates it could occur within 48 hours. Please stay safe and pay attention to air raid sirens,”  Zelenskyy said in an evening address.
The warning came hours after Russian strikes on the Kyiv region on Friday killed at least 10 people and injured around 100 others, including strikes on an arms exhibition attended by Ukrainian defence industry representatives. A further five people were killed in guided aerial bomb strikes on Slovyansk.
Zelenskyy called air defence the single top priority where partners can make an immediate difference. He said all existing agreements on support must be fulfilled promptly.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to Washington next week for peace talks with President Donald Trump, where air defence deliveries and a proposed air ceasefire proposal for Russia are both expected to be on the agenda.
