Israeli airstrikes and gunfire killed at least seven Palestinians in Gaza on Tuesday, including a child and an Egyptian aid worker, as strikes hit displaced families sheltering in tents and residential areas across Khan Younis and Gaza City, pushing the total death toll since the October 2023 ceasefire to more than 1,072.
An Israeli airstrike killed a man and wounded two children in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis. A second strike hit near a tent encampment housing displaced families in western Gaza City, killing one person and wounding five others. A third strike in Khan Younis killed one person and wounded three others.
The Israeli military said all three strikes targeted Hamas militants. The Popular Resistance Committees confirmed one of the Khan Younis strikes killed a senior leader of the group, Waheed Abu Salem.
Later Tuesday, a vehicle strike in the Tel Al-Hawa neighbourhood of Gaza City killed three people including a child. One of the dead was identified as Mohammad Al-Waheidi, public relations director of the Egyptian Committee for Aid to Gaza. One further Palestinian was killed and nine wounded by Israeli gunfire in Rafah.
Hamas accused Israel of systematic ceasefire violations. More than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 2023, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
