Robbie Williams has moved quickly to knock down online speculation after a World Cup final clip turned a tiny white object into a full-blown fan theory.
The singer was filmed during an interview at Sunday’s Spain-Argentina final when a white object appeared to fall from his mouth onto a microphone. The clip spread online, with some viewers suggesting it was cocaine.
Williams responded Monday morning in a shirtless Instagram video, treating the rumor with a mix of mock apology and dry timing.
“Just like to apologize for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday,” Williams said. “I was deeply unprofessional, and people are worried about me, but it’s okay ‘cause I have several more.”
He then stuck out his tongue to show two mints, indicating that was what had dropped during the interview.
The public conversation intensified partly because Williams has spoken openly before about substance abuse. In his 2023 Netflix docuseries, he described a period of heavy drug and alcohol use during rehearsals, saying he had been taking ecstasy, cocaine and drinking heavily.
That history made the viral clip feel less like a throwaway stadium moment for some fans and more like a cause for concern. But Williams’ response framed the incident as a mint mishap rather than anything more serious.
