A coordinated surge of violence has pushed Pakistan into a major security crisis, with the military confirming on Wednesday that 42 people have been killed across southwestern Balochistan province since Monday. In a televised news conference, military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry revealed that the casualties included 18 police officers, 11 soldiers, and four civilians, while security forces successfully eliminated 54 militants during intensive retaliatory counter-operations.

The deadly Balochistan fighter attacks unfolded across multiple high-stakes engagements. The first ambush occurred on Monday when dozens of fighters descended on a remote checkpoint guarding the Mangi dam project in the Ziarat district, initially killing nine police officers before taking others hostage, who were later recovered amid heavy fighting.

On Wednesday, insurgents belonging to the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) launched a separate multidirectional assault on a military convoy along the N-25 highway, killing 11 soldiers. Pakistan’s central government has largely blamed the escalating violence on regional groups operating from cross-border sanctuaries in neighboring Afghanistan. Issuing a stern warning to the insurgents and their foreign facilitators, Chaudhry emphasized that the military would relentlessly hunt down every terrorist cell to restore administrative control over the mineral-rich border province.
