Meta is reportedly weighing a multibillion-dollar data center deal with Anthropic, a move that would push the Facebook and Instagram owner into a new business built around c.
The talks are described as early-stage, but reports suggest a potential agreement could be worth up to $10 billion over two years. The arrangement would see Anthropic lease some of Meta’s data center capacity as demand for AI compute keeps rising across the industry.
For Meta, that would mark a step beyond its advertising-driven core business. The company has been pouring money into AI infrastructure to support its own models, while also trying to compete with OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and others in the race to build more capable systems.
Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has previously told investors that other companies regularly ask about accessing Meta’s computing capacity. On an earnings call last year, he said Meta fields such requests “almost every week” and called the idea of offering data center space to others “an option.”
The reported Anthropic talks show how AI rivals can still become infrastructure customers when chips, power and data center access are scarce. Anthropic, the company behind Claude, needs large amounts of compute to train and serve its models, while Meta is looking for ways to turn its spending on AI infrastructure into revenue.
Meta has said it expects capital spending of between $125 billion and $145 billion in 2026, with AI data centers taking a large share of that budget.
Anthropic has already struck a similar compute arrangement with SpaceXAI, reportedly worth $45 billion over three years. After that deal was announced, Anthropic raised rate limits for Claude Code subscribers.
