The contracts powering the AI boom are now under sharper scrutiny, as investors look beyond the headline value of billion-dollar supply arrangements and ask how much protection they really offer if the market cools.

Long-term deals to supply computing power for artificial intelligence have become part of the commercial machinery behind the sector’s rapid buildout. AI suppliers say those arrangements give them a clearer view of future revenue, helping companies present investors with forecasts for stronger sales and profits, Wall Street Journal reported.

That has mattered for chipmakers and memory suppliers, where demand tied to AI systems has helped lift market expectations. Companies such as SK Hynix and Micron have been closely watched as investors try to measure how much of the AI spending cycle is already locked in through supply agreements.

But the durability of those contracts is now the pressure point. The arrangements may carry large headline values, but they are not always the same as guaranteed demand if customers slow spending, delay projects or reassess the pace of AI deployment.

The question lands at a sensitive moment for Big Tech and its suppliers. AI companies need chips, memory and computing capacity to keep expanding. Suppliers need customers willing to commit to expensive infrastructure over time. Investors have treated those commitments as evidence that the boom has years left to run.

The risk is that a contract built for a fast-rising market can look different if growth weakens. For now, the deals remain a central part of the AI economy. Their real test will come when demand is no longer moving in only one direction.
