Sunil Kumar Sadasivan, a 52-year-old maintenance technician from Kerala living in Abu Dhabi, has revealed he will quit his job and return home to India permanently after winning the Dh30 million Grand Prize in the UAE Lottery’s Lucky Day Draw on July 1, becoming the second person to claim the jackpot since the draw launched earlier this year.
Sadasivan did not choose random numbers. He used the birthdays of his daughter, himself and his wife, in that order. Their first ticket together won Dh100. The second won Dh30 million. The ticket was bought jointly with the friend who lives in the room next to his, and the two will split the winnings equally, leaving each with Dh15 million.
“I have worked since I was very young, and I feel this is the right time to finally take a step back and rest,” he told Gulf News. “I plan to return home and spend some time with my family, something years of hard work rarely allowed.”
He plans to finish building his family home in Kerala, invest for his daughter’s education and rest. The first Dh30 million winner, announced five weeks earlier, was Tayab Khan, a 26-year-old Nepalese security guard who shared his prize equally among five friends.
