Claude Tag Turns Slack Into an AI-Powered Workplace Assistant

Anthropic is moving Claude further into the daily flow of office work with Claude Tag, a new Slack-based tool that lets employees assign tasks to the AI assistant inside team channels.

The company said the product launched Tuesday, June 23, 2026, in beta for Claude Enterprise and Team customers. Anthropic described it as “a new way for teams to work with Claude,” starting with Slack because that is where much of its own work already happens.

Claude Tag lets an administrator grant Claude access to selected Slack channels, workplace tools, data and codebases. Once it is added, anyone in the channel can tag @Claude with a request, then follow its work in a shared thread rather than a private chat.

The company said the tool can break requests into stages, use approved systems and respond with what it has created. It can also remember relevant information from channels where it has permission to operate, while Anthropic said it “doesn’t report from private channels.”

Anthropic is pitching the product as more than a chatbot dropped into Slack. If a setting called ambient behavior is enabled, Claude can proactively flag relevant information, follow up on unresolved threads and schedule work for itself over hours or days.

Inside Anthropic, the company said the system is already part of product work. “Tagging @Claude is now one of the main ways we get things done at Anthropic,” the company said, adding that 65% of its product team’s code is created by its internal version of Claude Tag.

Controls are central to the rollout. Administrators can define which tools and information Claude can use in each channel, keep memories scoped to specific workspaces, set token spending limits and review logs showing what Claude did and who requested it.

Claude Tag replaces the existing Claude in Slack app. Anthropic said administrators can opt in within 30 days and eligible Enterprise and Team organizations will receive an introductory launch credit.
