Eala delivered the grass-court shock of the day in Berlin on Friday, beating world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals and throw fresh energy into the pre-Wimbledon run.
The women’s tour said Eala was overcome after the result, quoting her as saying: “I’m still shaking.” The win sends her into the last eight at the Berlin Open, a key stop in the short grass swing before Wimbledon.
Rybakina arrived as one of the highest-ranked players in the field, but Eala seized the moment on a stage loaded with players trying to tune up for the All England Club. The result instantly became the headline from a busy Berlin slate.
