Keir Starmer formally delivered his final address as Prime Minister outside 10 Downing Street, declaring “my work is done” as he prepares to hand over power. Reflecting on his six-and-a-half-year tenure as Labour leader, Starmer highlighted his journey from rebuilding the party after its historic electoral defeat in 2019 to securing a landslide general election victory in 2024. He expressed profound gratitude for the privilege of serving the nation, stating his firm confidence that Britain is now stronger and fairer than when he took office two years ago.

In his farewell address, Starmer pointed to his administration’s signature accomplishments, noting key strides in lifting children out of poverty, curbing immigration, reinforcing national defense, and bolstering the United Kingdom’s international standing. He paid tribute to the everyday contributions of NHS staff, military personnel, and community volunteers across the country. Starmer also called for national unity in the face of foreign threats, warning that global adversaries remain focused on dividing the country, due in part to Britain’s unflinching resolve and ongoing support for Ukraine.

Concluding his speech, Starmer wished his successor, Andy Burnham, every success in leading the nation forward, while offering warm thanks to his wife Victoria and his Downing Street staff. Stating that he steps down with good grace, a smile, and immense pride in his government’s achievements, Starmer officially brought an end to his premiership.
