Pope Leo XIV held a private meeting with global music star Bad Bunny in Madrid, Spanish public broadcaster RTVE reported, a claim later confirmed by the Vatican.
The meeting took place on Monday (June 8) at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where the Pope was holding a series of engagements during his official visit to Spain. According to reports, the encounter was part of a broader schedule of private audiences with various guests.
Speculation about a possible meeting between the Pope and the Puerto Rican artist had previously circulated in the media. Bad Bunny had been in Madrid at the time for a 10-show residency as part of his Debí Tirar Más Fotos tour.
RTVE reported that representatives of Bad Bunny had contacted the Spanish Episcopal Conference weeks earlier to explore the possibility of a meeting. An idea was even raised for him to participate in a large religious gathering near Madrid, which ultimately did not take place.
According to the same sources, Bad Bunny attended the meeting accompanied by family members and close collaborators. Several photos were taken during the audience, including unofficial mobile phone images, while an official photograph reportedly taken by the papal entourage has not yet been released publicly.
The meeting occurred while Pope Leo XIV was in Madrid and Bad Bunny was on a day off between concerts. The artist is scheduled to continue his performances in the Spanish capital on June 10, 11, 14, and 15.
