The United States struck Iran for a second consecutive night on Thursday, expanding its campaign to include the capital Tehran and new targets across southern and northern Iran, killing at least 14 people and wounding 78 over two days, as Iran retaliated by hitting US military assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Jordan.
Thursday’s US strikes hit Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Kuhestak, Chabahar, Jask, Abu Musa Island and Konarak, destroying IRGC docks, radar systems, drone sites and ammunition depots. The US also bombed a railway bridge in northern Iran that links the country to China and Russia, according to Iran’s Fars news agency, and struck airport facilities in Iranshahr near the Pakistani border, killing one person. A strike on a fishing pier in Sirik killed three people and injured 15 others. Explosions were later reported near the Bushehr nuclear facility, though Iran said those blasts were caused by its own air defences.
Iran’s IRGC said it struck US bases Arifjan and Ali Al Salem in Kuwait, Juffair and Sheikh Isa in Bahrain, a Patriot missile system in Kuwait, a satellite antenna in Qatar and fuel depots in Bahrain. Iran also fired 10 ballistic missiles at Azraq Air Base in Jordan. Air raid sirens sounded across all four countries.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf accused Washington of bullying and breaking promises, warning that further US strikes would be met with equivalent force. Iran filed a formal complaint with the UN Security Council. Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said Israel was ready to strike Iran with even greater force if needed.
