One of the biggest shifts in social media this year is Meta’s move away from its purely ad-supported model.

The company has launched Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus, offering premium features such as advanced story analytics, profile customization, additional chat tools and enhanced user controls. Meta is also rolling out paid tiers for its AI services.

The move reflects a broader trend across the industry as platforms search for new revenue streams beyond advertising.

If successful, Meta could fundamentally change expectations about what users are willing to pay for on social media.
