Meta has launched Instants, a new standalone app focused on disappearing photos and casual sharing between friends.
The platform is designed around private, low-pressure communication rather than public feeds and influencer content. Posts disappear after viewing and expire within 24 hours, closely resembling Snapchat’s original concept.
The launch highlights an important shift in social media behavior. Users, particularly younger audiences, are increasingly moving away from highly curated public posting toward private messaging and close-friend interactions.
The battle for private sharing may become one of the industry’s most important competitive fronts.
