Switzerland advanced to the 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 16 following a comfortable 2-0 victory against Algeria on Thursday in Vancouver, Canada. The match maintained the European team’s unbeaten streak in the tournament after finishing at the top of Group B during the group stage.

Forward Breel Embolo opened the scoring for Switzerland in the 10th minute of the last-32 knockout fixture. Shortly after the halftime interval, Dan Ndoye doubled the team’s advantage by scoring just one minute into the second half. Algeria struggled to create clear goal-scoring opportunities following the second goal, leaving the Switzerland vs Algeria scoreline unchanged for the remainder of the match.

With this crucial victory, Switzerland moves forward to the next stage of the global tournament with an undefeated record of two wins and one draw from their opening matches. The Swiss national side will remain at the Vancouver venue to face either Colombia or Ghana on Tuesday, aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the third time in their history.
