Timothée Chalamet went to the World Cup in a France jacket and somehow walked into one of the most internet-ready celebrity crossovers of the tournament.
The actor was in Dallas for the France vs. Spain semifinal when he met members of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, whose own pop-culture profile has grown through the docuseries America’s Sweethearts. In a video posted by the cheerleaders and Anna Kate Sundvold, Chalamet is shown meeting the group and saying he was “starstruck.”
It was a small clip, but the combination did a lot of work: a French-American movie star, an American football institution, and a global soccer match all colliding inside Dallas Stadium.
Chalamet wore France gear to the game, drawing a mixed reaction from fans in the stadium as he watched France take on Spain. The appearance also extended his public run as an unusually visible celebrity sports fan, after previous attention around his New York Knicks loyalty.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, meanwhile, have become a wider pop-culture reference point beyond NFL sidelines. Their training, public image and workplace conversation have been pulled into the mainstream through reality TV, social media and renewed debate over how cheerleading is treated as labor and entertainment.
That made the meeting feel less like a standard celebrity photo-op and more like a collision of fandoms. Chalamet came to watch France. The internet got Timmy meeting America’s cheerleading royalty.
