Charli XCX gave fans another fast, flirty jolt from her next era Friday, releasing “Wink Wink” with a new video that keeps the rollout for Music, Fashion, Film moving at full speed.
The clip, directed by Aidan Zamiri, finds Charli in a looser mode: eating strawberries in a field, washing windows, slipping onto a roof and dancing alone. In the song, she insists she is “not a bad girl anymore,” a line that lands like a wink at the persona she has been playing with since Brat turned her into pop’s most discussed chaos agent.
“Wink Wink” is the third taste of Music, Fashion, Film, following “Rock Music” and “SS26.” The album is due July 24 via Atlantic and is being positioned as her official full-length follow-up to Brat.
The rollout has also kept fans guessing over sound and image. Charli has previously pushed back on the idea that Music, Fashion, Film is a rock album, even as the campaign has pulled in figures from outside the club-pop lane, including John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Martin Scorsese for its cover concept.
Charli is also set to support the album with a short arena tour and festival appearances including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and Austin City Limits.
