Yaxel Lendeborg needed one Summer League night to grab the room’s attention, going perfect from the floor as Warriors Gold opened the California Classic with a 104-72 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers in San Francisco.
The No. 11 overall pick finished with 19 points, five rebounds and six assists on 6-for-6 shooting, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range. For a first pro look, it was clean, loud and hard to ignore.
Golden State took control before halftime, using a 29-10 second quarter to turn a close game into a runaway. The Warriors led by 20 or more throughout the second half and pushed the margin as high as 37.
The numbers matched the eye test. Warriors Gold shot 63% from the field and 62% from deep, while holding the Lakers to 38% overall and 23% from 3-point range. Golden State also doubled Los Angeles in assists, 32-16, a gap that told the story of the night.
All five Warriors starters scored in double figures. Will Richard added 16 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Chance McMillian came off the bench for 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Cameron Carr gave the Lakers their best push with 19 points and five 3-pointers. Arthur Kaluma added 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks off the bench, while Adou Thiero had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The doubleheader opened with Miami edging San Antonio 88-87 behind 21 points each from Ryan Conwell and Jahmir Young. R.J. Davis had a late chance to win it for the Spurs, but missed a pull-up 3-pointer with two seconds left.
Lendeborg kept his postgame message simple after the breakout start: “Felt great,” he said. “I had a lot of fun… Hopefully we can take it into the next game and continue to build.”
