Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova will meet in an all-Czech Wimbledon women’s final on Saturday, the first time two players from the same nation have contested a Grand Slam final since the Williams sisters at Wimbledon in 2009, after two contrasting semifinal victories on Centre Court on Thursday.

Muchova, seeded 10th, saved a match point and produced a stunning diving volley to beat American seventh seed Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 in a tiebreak that reached 12-10, her 11th consecutive victory on grass this season. The 29-year-old, who needs allergy pills and eye drops just to play on grass, is now in her second Grand Slam final after the 2023 French Open.

Noskova, 21 and seeded ninth, was clinical throughout, beating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 without dropping a set. The win confirmed what Czech tennis has known for years: “There’s always just been someone,” Noskova said courtside.

For the third time in four years, a Czech player will lift the Venus Rosewater Dish. Noskova was inspired by childhood idol Petra Kvitova, who won the title twice. Muchova was shaking when she spoke to the crowd: “It was a rollercoaster. In 10 seconds you have match point, then match point against you. Indescribable.”
