Sophie Thatcher is counting down her final days in the wilderness, and she does not sound sentimental about it.

The 25-year-old actor, who broke through as teenage Natalie Scatorccio on Yellowjackets, said in an interview this week that she had only three days of filming left on the Paramount+ survival thriller. Her reaction was blunt: “And then I’m free.”

Thatcher said the feeling was not aimed at the writers, but at the strange loop of returning to a younger version of herself season after season. Asked if she had outgrown the show, she said, “I personally feel a bit stunted.”

For fans, it is a sharp little jolt. Natalie has been one of the show’s bruised emotional centers since the pilot, with Thatcher playing the teenage version and Juliette Lewis previously playing the adult Natalie.

Yellowjackets, created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, follows a girls’ high-school football team across two timelines: the 19 months they spend stranded after a plane crash in 1996, and the adult lives shaped by what happened there.

Thatcher said returning to that teenage headspace had become a “very confusing thing,” especially after filming the pilot seven years ago. She also said she wanted to keep growing as an actor instead of repeatedly stepping back into the same emotional place.

The comments arrive as the show films its fourth and final season. Lyle and Nickerson announced last October that the series would end with a “twisted conclusion.”

A release date for the final season has not been announced.
