Russia pummeled Ukraine’s capital with a wave of ballistic missiles early Saturday morning, wounding at least ten people and inflicting widespread damage across multiple urban districts. Journalists and residents on the ground reported hearing a series of thunderous explosions echoing through Kyiv at around 3:40 a.m. local time, with the strikes hitting moments before official air raid sirens could even be activated to warn sleeping citizens.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the injured include an 11-year-old boy, with four victims requiring immediate hospitalization while others were treated for injuries at the scene. Emergency crews were rapidly deployed across the capital to combat a major fire that engulfed an office building in the Solomianskyi district. Additional structural damage and debris fields were reported by city military administration head Tymur Tkachenko across the Sviatoshynskyi and Dniprovskyi districts.

The pre-dawn bombardment marks the latest escalation in Russia’s relentless summer air campaign against the capital, coming just three days after a July 8 strike that killed four people and injured 15 others. Ukrainian military officials noted that Moscow’s deliberate use of high-speed ballistic missiles underscores Kyiv’s critical shortage of advanced air defense interceptors, leaving the city highly vulnerable to rapid, low-warning strikes.
