Russian President Vladimir Putin met with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui at the Kremlin, using the high level diplomatic meeting to express his gratitude to Pyongyang for its continued support in Russia’s military campaign against Ukraine.
According to Russian state media, Choe arrived in Moscow following an invitation from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, though neither government formally announced the specific agenda beforehand. During their Sunday meeting, Putin praised the deepening bilateral alliance, while Choe conveyed that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un remains steadfastly committed to expanding political and defense ties with Moscow.
The unannounced visit has fueled widespread international speculation that the two nations are making preliminary preparations for another summit between Putin and Kim. Officials in Seoul announced that South Korea’s Unification Ministry is closely monitoring the diplomatic exchanges for signs of an upcoming meeting, though officials declined to assess potential military or political agreements.
The meeting underscores the rapidly strengthening partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang, built on mutual defense commitments, North Korean weapons and troop deployments, and critical economic and technological backing from Russia.
