Beyoncé dropped a surprise new single titled Morning Dew (Donk) on July 4, her first new music since the Grammy-winning Cowboy Carter album in March 2024, timing the release to coincide with America’s 250th Independence Day and immediately breaking the internet.

The smooth four-minute R&B track was co-written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon and produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell. It was accompanied by a black-and-white lyric video directed by Cliff Watts, featuring archive footage from Beyoncé’s iconic 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot. Originally recorded in 2013 and previously leaked online in 2023, the official version marks its formal release on all major streaming platforms.

The song starts a 60-day countdown to September 4, Beyoncé’s birthday and the exact date of B’Day’s original release in 2006. The track will appear on a 20th anniversary edition of that album, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 541,000 first-week sales and produced hits including Irreplaceable and Ring the Alarm.

The release has reignited fan speculation about Act III, the long-rumoured rock-themed finale to the trilogy that began with Renaissance and continued with Cowboy Carter.
