Global energy markets experienced another aggressive shockwave on Monday as oil prices climb under renewed Strait of Hormuz hostilities. International benchmark Brent crude futures jumped over 4% to hover near $79.50 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) surged past $74.40 a barrel. The sudden rally marks a volatile reversal for energy traders, triggered by an intense weekend of escalating cross-border military strikes between the United States and Iran that has left the future of the region’s fragile peace framework in tatters.

The immediate driver behind the price surge is the near-total paralysis of commercial maritime traffic through the world’s most critical energy chokepoint. While U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) flatly rejected Tehran’s claims that the passage has been formally closed “until further notice,” shipowners are refusing to risk the transit.

According to data released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global oil output had successfully bounced back by 4.1 million barrels per day in June under the short-lived, U.S.-led interim ceasefire. With those diplomacy channels now entirely frozen, market analysts warn that a prolonged bottleneck could quickly trigger structural deficits.
