Crude oil production in the United Arab Emirates reached an all-time high of 4.1 million barrels per day in June, according to the latest monthly report from the International Energy Agency (IEA). The record-shattering output surpasses the UAE’s previous peak of 4 million bpd set during the 2020 price war and underscores Abu Dhabi’s aggressive efforts to fill global supply gaps caused by the ongoing war in Iran. This massive mobilization follows the country’s historic decision to withdraw from OPEC at the end of April, freeing it from the cartel’s rigid production quotas.

To bypass regional conflict risks and maximize exports, Abu Dhabi utilized a series of bold maritime tactics throughout June. The UAE deployed its own expansive state fleet alongside heavily chartered supertankers from South Korea’s Sinokor Group. According to the IEA, many of these vessels operated “dark” with their digital transponders deactivated, safely moving millions of barrels out of the Persian Gulf unmonitored. While other regional heavyweights have also boosted June output, only the UAE has successfully managed to exceed its pre-war supply baselines.

The IEA noted that the majority of this production surge occurred just before this week’s sudden collapse of the U.S.-Iran interim truce, which triggered fresh airstrikes and renewed security threats in the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to the latest escalation, the influx of UAE barrels had briefly flipped global energy markets toward an oversupply, driving prices down to four-month lows. However, with maritime tensions returning to a flashpoint, energy analysts warn that maintaining these record-high export levels will become increasingly difficult despite Abu Dhabi’s robust alternative pipeline infrastructure.
