The United States has launched an eighth straight night of strikes on Iran, extending a fast-moving conflict after two American soldiers were killed in Iranian strikes in Jordan.

President Donald Trump described the latest US action as “swift punishment,” tying the new wave of attacks to the deaths of the two soldiers. The strikes add another day of direct US military action against Iran, following a week of escalating exchanges.

The timing puts fresh pressure on Washington’s political debate over the conflict. Supporters of a forceful response are likely to point to the deaths of US personnel as justification for retaliation. Critics have warned that repeated strikes risk drawing the United States deeper into a wider regional war.

The attack in Jordan also widens the geography of the confrontation. Iran’s strike on a site linked to US forces there, followed by another US response against Iran, places a close American partner at the center of the latest escalation.

Iran’s army announced it launched kamikaze drone strikes on U.S. military facilities at Kuwait’s Camp Udairi and the Ali Al Salem Air Base. According to Iranian state television, the attacks were a retaliatory measure for recent U.S. airstrikes that hit bridges, infrastructure, and civilian areas inside Iran.
